ROOZT RATINGS
Humanitarian
Rural Revolution believes in the power of employment and self-expression as a means of cultural, eco nomic and physical sustainability for women and their communities. By connecting female artisans in developing regions of the world with their growing team of sales ambassadors in the United States, Rural Revolution is empowering female entrepreneurs on a local and global scale. Sales ambassadors represent the artisans, many of whom are HIV-positive women, and help convey the women's stories through a direct sales model. These partnerships are mutually beneficial, creating flexible earning opportunities while empowering local economies and cultures around the globe. In the spirit of sustainability, Rural Revolution gives a portion of its proceeds to funding literacy programs for women and children, as well as to help provide micro-loans, health care and education for women in the company's partnership communities. Now there's a responsible revolution! Read More...

KENDRA J ONES MORRIS, Rural Revolution’s Founder, is a visual anthropologist and artist. Before launching Rural Revolution, she worked as a cultural liaison, mediating between Fortune 500 companies and the local communities in developing regions into which these large organizations expanded. Her work took her around the globe and enabled her to deeply explore local cultures, with a client base that included micro-lending NGOs in the Caribbean, missionaries in the bush of Kenya, and research for the United States government in Haiti. Through her work, Kendra came to believe that cross-cultural understanding should view those in need as partners as opposed to recipients of charity. As a mother and wife living in New Orleans, she is reminded daily of the need for building community with other women, as well as the strength and opportunity that self-employment can offer.

AMY BARAD, Rural Revolution’s Co-founder, has a background that includes urban policy, economic development, and business management. She has held various project management roles that have impacted New Orleans’ education system and local business growth strategy. Before she moved to New Orleans, she held management and consulting positions in finance, customer service, and logistical operations in the for-profit industry. Her experience also includes leading the design of community development projects in Johannesburg, South Africa. Amy graduated with a B.A. in Urban Studies from Brown University and has completed postgraduate work at UCLA in Global Sustainability. She spends her free time exploring New Orleans’ nuanced and storied neighborhoods.
