DESCRIPTION India is full of contradictions. The feeling of spirituality is hastily tested by the surrounding reality. Nothing is what it seems to be, at least in the way that we foreigners want to understand it. The girl is not painting a heart on the blue wall. She is trying to erase it with a stick to prevent me from photographing it.

We donate 25% of your purchase price to the photojournalist and another 25% to our assigned non-profit partner, all of which which work to better lives in the communities represented in our photographs.

'Nuru' means 'light' in Swahili, photography being the medium of light. The double meaning of the name is that these images shine a light on what it’s like to live in a place defined by hardship.
