DESCRIPTION The Siachen Glacier has the dubious distinction of being the world's highest and coldest theater of war. For more than 20 years, the Indian and Pakistani armies have fought a low-intensity conflict at altitudes over 20,000 feet and at temperatures 50 degrees below zero. The glacier has no clearly identified strategic value, and both sides concede that there is no military solution to the war.

'Nuru' means 'light' in Swahili, photography being the medium of light. The double meaning of the name is that these images shine a light on what it’s like to live in a place defined by hardship. By selling prints that tell stories about people's everyday lives -- their families, th eir struggles, their traditions, their passions -- we create a connection between print buyer and subject that is based on commonality and respect.
