DESCRIPTION On March 9, 2007, Pakistani President Musharraf suspended Supreme Court Chief Justice Chaudry. I was in Pakistan on assignment for the New Observer, a French Magazine, and made my way to Islamabad to photograph the ensuing demonstrations. During one protest, I spotted a woman through the tear gas holding up a victory sign in front of the National Assembly. I ran to her. She saw me taking pictures. We were unsure how the army would react, but nothing happened. Eventually, she disappeared back into the crowd. I was amazed to see a woman standing up to power in a male society. She was alone and unafraid.
