As connected to their cause as an infinity scarf is to its ends, Connected in Hope is committed to h elping Ethiopian women achieve a sustainable, predictable income for the means to a better life for both them and their children. In doing so, they invest 100% of the profits generated from sales of their hand-loomed scarves in programs to support these women. Profits have gone toward supporting an on-site preschool as well as capacity building programs and access to basic health care. Ethiopian women represent over 70% of the country's poor. But, while they disproportionately charact erize the problem of poverty, they also represent the greatest hope for a solution. Connected in Hope aims to help these women become self-sustainable and thus, able to ensure both their own survival and that of their children. Connected in Hope provides sustainable incomes to Ethiopian women through weaving, when they would otherwise be stuck with a physically burdensome job such as carrying fuel wood. Read More...

Community

The town in Ethiopia where Connected in Hope concentrates its efforts is Mt. Entoto, one of the poor est and most densely populated areas of Addis Ababa. In response to the severity, Connected in Hope goes beyond fair trade to support income alternatives, improved educational opportunities and increased access to basic health care for total community betterment. Connected in Hope Foundation is a non-profit social enterprise that addresses the needs of women and families in Ethiopia.We work with women who once carried 75-80 pound bundles of fuel wood 10+ miles down the surrounding mountains to sell in the markets in Addis Ababa for less than $1/day.

Our mission goes beyond charity to the creation of a business model that honors and builds on the talent, commitment and creativity of our amazing weavers. Our goal is to provide access to international markets as well as the support, encouragement and training necessary for weavers to earn a sustainable, predictable and Fair Trade income. The weavers are paid upfront for their products and 100% of the profits from sales are reinvested in programs that benefit the women and their families.
