ABOUT Blu Kicks
WHY WE LOVE THEM
Beyond their dollar-per-pair investment in charities, Blu Kicks frequently participates in local beach clean-ups and events with San Francisco Bay Area based charities. Their goal? To work closely with their generous partners to generate creative ways to help protect the oceans, beaches and fishes!
Nothing fishy here -- Blu Kicks utilizes organic canvas and natural dyes in the construction of their shoes. Actually, nearly everything associated with the line is eco-friendly, including recyclable packaging and sustainable, local materials for any promotional material. Even the printers they use are local and sustainable!
Talk about a mouthful of inspiration, Blu Kicks' came from the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, an exotic Hawaiian fish. And no, not at the end of a fork. Rather, Blu Kicks took interest in saving the handsome species. Now an endangered fish, the Humu's natural habitat is being overfished for the aquarium business. When a friend pointed out the Humu's uncanny resemblance to a sneaker, Blu Kicks created a line of sneakers in the Humu's honor. For every pair of Blu Kicks sold, they invest one dollar of the sale in organizations that protect marine environments. Their current partner organizations are WildAid and For the Fishes, both of which are focused on fighting the illegal wildlife trade and thus protecting coral reef fish like the Humu.
ABOUT Blu Kicks
We are a family business inspired by sunny vacations, and a crazy-looking yellow fish.Spending time in Hawaii, weve gotten to know the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, the stunning-looking native fish. As the Humu's home fell victim to overfishing and abuse, we wanted to do something to help protect the place we cared about. When our friend Bubba, a local fishing guide, pointed out the Humus resemblance to a sneaker, we hatched a plan. Two years of designing, lively discussion and product development, has transformed that initial spark into a full-fledged shoe company. Our go-anywhere product line reflects designs inspired by fish, like the Humu. And in return for their role as muse, we invest one dollar from each shoe sold towards protecting their habitats. We think youll wear our shoes because you like how they look and youll certainly enjoy the comfort and quality weve built into each pair. But theres something more in each shoea little bit of the islands breezy, laid-back personality that we hope inspires you to slow down and relax, even if its only for a slow bike ride around the neighborhood, an hour on the water, or sipping a cold one on the porch. If you can do some good at the same time, why not? Take it slow.
