DESCRIPTION These beautiful tote bags are made in Guatemala from repurposed traditional skirts. The indigo colored fabric is made by men on foot looms in the area of Sacatepequez. The fabric is then stitched together by women in lengthwise panels with multicolored thread embroidery for added embellishment. Each bag is made from vintage cloth that will vary slightly, and trimmed in fine leather. All totes feature a magnet snap closure and creme muslin lining with an interior zipped compartment and open pocket. Tote measures 13"h x 21"w x 6"d, handles are 7".

La Casa Guatemala has exported an increasingly wide range of Guatemalan handcrafted merchandise since 1995, and currently works with artisan communities throughout the country. Within Guatemala, La Casa Guatemala's commitments are to generate sustainable, optimum income-producing crafts production, including new opportunities for existing artisan groups, and training for incipient groups. ABOUT 12 SMALL THINGS 12 Small Things is a collection of fashionable, fair trade products supporting artisans in economically challenged communities around the world. The twelve artisan groups featured each season have been introduced to us by fair trade wholesalers, nonprofit organizations and consultants who work directly with the craftspeople. We strive to represent artisans from different parts of the world, whose stories we find compelling and worth sharing. Occasionally we also feature products from American artisans who donate a portion of their proceeds to help to support non-profit organizations in their c ommunities. Our products are chosen for their quality and value with an eye for both contemporary and classic style. By supporting these organizations and buying their fairly traded products, we are helping these artisans earn a living wage, send their children to schools, and afford daily necessities that we often take for granted.
